Francesco "Cecco" Maino met Chet in 1956, and spent the next 32 years photographing him. Mr. Maino began photographing jazz musicians in 1952, and in addition to Chet, he has photographed Duke Ellington, Gerry Mulligan, Count Basie, Art Pepper, Dave Brubeck, Art Blakey, Ben Webster and many, many more. His photos of Chet appeared in both the J. deValk and James Gavin biographies. Today, Cecco still lives in him hometown of Florence, Italy where he enjoys sailing, soaring, music, reading and gathering with friends on Friday nights to talk, drink Colle Beretto wine and listen to music.
