Chet Baker
Some of the
best Chet Baker / Russ Freeman work can be found here. Many of the greats
of "West Coast Jazz" are here, including Bud Shank on baritone saxophone.
The 2004 CD release of this album includes a few alternate takes from the
1954 session. It also includes the rare 1957 Bob Zieff sessions from
December 9, 1957. This was the session Chet was working on earlier in the
day that he recorded Embraceable You. Most of these tunes have been
available on on the Pacific Jazz box set (which has been out of print for
years). These 4 tunes are interesting, but Chet seems detached from the
music, and they tend to leave the listener cold.
