Chet Baker with Fifty Italian Strings
Chet Baker
This
is not one of Chet's best recording sessions, but unfortunately it
seems to be one of the the most widely issued. These tunes can be found on
many labels under many titles with various
cover art. These songs were actually recorded at the same time as the
excellent Chet Baker In Milan session. But unlike those sextet recordings, we find Chet here
buried in some heavy-handed strings. You can't really compare this
to the Chet Baker And Strings session in 1953, where Chet had some
cleaver arrangements and excellent sidemen. Here, we are given some rather
dull arrangements, leading Chet to play mostly uninspired
solos. His vocal work is pretty good, and it is the only thing that really
saves this album..
