You Can't Go Home Again
The Best Thing For You

Chet Baker

Chet holds his own in a jazz-fusion setting. Much of this recording seems dated today, as Moog synthesizers permeate many of the arrangements. Fans of his more traditional sound will like the quintet tracks with Desmond, who died just months after these recordings. Verve fills the 2-CD set with with too many unnecessary alternate takes. That, combined with the sometimes jarring switch from jazz-fusion to a traditional jazz combo, make this a CD you will not want to listen to straight from beginning to end. However, you will find a few jewels here that is some of the best music Chet ever recorded.
